Jewelry Repair and Service

Jewelry Service is the Core of our business. This starts with Free cleanings and inspections. Your items will be inspected by one of our experts and professionally cleaned to bring back their original luster. If any issues are discovered we will give you a no obligation quote on repairs or restoration.

Almost all repairs are done on premises by our in house goldsmith. We purposely put our repair bench in our showroom so our clients can see how the process is completed. Most jewelry repairs are completed in 3 to 5 days but in special circumstances we may be able to accommodate same day service.

Most common jewelry repairs include ring sizing, prong repair, stone tightening, chain repair, and clasp repair or replacements. We work on silver, gold and platinum however because of the high heat necessary to work on platinum these items may need to be sent to an outside shop that has a laser welder.

White gold items – White gold is an alloy of 58% pure gold ( a yellow metal ) and 42% other metals that may include silver, nickel, or palladium. These white metals give your item its white coloring but since the gold is the primary metal occasionally your jewelry has a slight yellow cast. This is corrected by a coating of Rhodium. Rhodium is a hypo allergenic metal that belongs to the Platinum family. It is harder and far more expensive than platinum and when applied to jewelry gives it the mirror like appearance. Rhodium plating is only a few microns thick and will wear off over time. It is suggested that the finish be reapplied once a year.

  • Silver - Sterling silver is 92.5% pure. Silver is harder than gold but lighter per volume. Silver jewelry is often Rhodium plated as well to prevent tarnish and enhance its durability. If your Silver jewelry isn’t rhodium plated and does begin to tarnish it is easily polished to like new condition.
  • Appraisals - We offer appraisal services at Kimberly-Scott creations. Typically appraisals have 3 distinct purposes.
    • Insurance replacement – These are designed to detail the cost of replacing your jewelry based on current market prices. It is recommended that these appraisals are updated every 5 years
    • Fair Market Value – These are usually done to settle estates. This type of appraisal indicates what you may be able to sell these items for in the open market.
    • Liquidation – This is usually an evaluation based on the component parts. This is typically what a jeweler or someone involved in the jewelry business is likely to pay.
